Doug Hoekstra is a Chicago-bred, Nashville-based writer, educated at DePaul (B.A.) and Belmont (M.Ed.) respectively. His short stories, essays, and poems have appeared in numerous print and online journals. His first book, “Bothering the Coffee Drinkers earned an Independent Publisher Award Bronze Medal (IPPY) for Best Short Fiction; his third book and first collection of poetry, Unopened came out in early 2019. As a musician/songwriter, Hoekstra has also released seven CDs of original material on labels in the U.S. and Europe, touring both the US and Europe extensively, and earning Nashville Music Award and Independent Music Award nominations. “Unopened is a reminder of how good a writer Doug Hoekstra is. As heartbreaking as it is often hilarious, it chronicles life, as Hoekstra’s songs also have done, with matter-of-fact honesty and realism.”(Pennyblack Music UK)
