As Nashville, TN – the Athens of the South – continues to grow in population and popularity, it’s becoming known not only as a music mecca, but also as a vibrant visual arts center. One of the oldest and most highly respected visual art groups in the Mid-South area is the Nashville Artist Guild. NAG is 69 years old and is still going strong. The Guild was created in 1950 when two art educators from Vanderbilt University brought together some of their student artists with local professional artists and created a juried professional artists’ association. Thirty artists were accepted as original members and the new group was called the Nashville Artist Guild. The Guild continues to honor its commitment to excellence in art, diversity, art education, and raising public awareness of ne visual art. Current members work in many mediums including oil, enamel, glass, encaustic, wood, marble, photography and digital media.
