SCARRITT-BENNETT CENTER
HOSTS THE 1ST ANNUAL
ELDERS FOR TODAY CONFERENCE
Memories, Dreams and Reality:
The Civil Rights Movement 1960-2010
January 5-8, 2010
More than 50 years ago, a great movement to advance civil rights
took hold of America and changed the lives of many people. But what is the lasting impact of the Civil Rights Movement on communities and individuals today?
The Elders for Today Conferencewill bring together people who
experienced the Civil Rights era of the 1960s and those interested in learning about the era, and engage them in an interactive conversation about civil rights and social justice issues past and present.
The conference will provide participants with a historical perspective of the movement using Nashville’s Civil Rights history as a spring-board. A variety of creative methods for the sharing of individual memories and experiences will include music, writing, technology and art; and will encourage participants to explore how the Civil Rights Movement of the 1960s continues to impact America today, and what it might mean for tomorrow.
