Society bears fruit, some of which has been gathered by gallery F in an exhibition of sculpture, installation, video, collage and painting. The show playfully inquires into issues of identity, belonging and gender in the context of the interplay of societal expectations and the idea of one’s true self. The answers to these questions remain open. The artists’ works present a spectrum from humorous to deeply contemplative.

The exhibition is an installation of drawings, paintings, and objects created by artists with mental disabilities. It looks at the question, “Is there such a thing as so-called Outsider Art? Who is the outsider? Is it the artist, or is everybody an outsider in some way?”
This show attempts to shed light on the relationship between the artistic process and the product. In this case the product is very colorful, joyful and pure. The intentions are not to resolve the problems of the world, but to convey more basic needs, like living in a house, having my cat, being with a friend. "I would like to be a cat, then I would eat and eat and eat.” (smile) - Mike.
In the end it does not matter if we call it Raw Art, Art Brut, or Outsider Art - we all become Insiders.
Show extended through Oct 10

An exhibition full of surprises, not only in subject matter, but in the use of materials like gold leafed hair, mysterious hovering particles in colorful fluid and bandages on symbolic limbs. Portraying materialized conversations between bodies, memories of abandoned objects, animal-like images on skin, the exhibition features photography, video and installation with fresh conceptual approaches. This show includes work from five artists currently working and residing in Nashville, two of them recent alumni of Watkins College of Art, Design & Film.

The art exhibition WISH LIST does not address the diamond
rings, perfect smiles, or shiny Hummers that Santa Claus stuffs
down the chimneys of the world. Instead, it deals with the
very personal wishes and concerns of young artists whose eyes
are wide open on their journeys – and not only during the
holiday season. These works of painting, printing, drawing,
installation and photography compel the viewer’s contemplation,
using humor and irony to describe what they really want
(or don't want) for Christmas.
WISH LIST is a collaboration with the students and graduates
of the Art Department of Tennessee State University.

The exhibit features artists from across the U.S. and their viewpoint on feminine values in art. Apart from their gender and dedication to art, most of these women are alums from the Vermont College of Fine Arts, which is devoted to progressive ideas and exchange, much like the mission of Scarritt-Bennett. This exhibition features installation, sculpture, video, painting and drawing and reflects personal statements regarding various aspects of society from politics to philosophy, from spirituality to psychology.
The exhibition is housed in the new gallery F. at the Front Porch Coffee & Gift Shop at Scarritt-Bennett, at the corner of 19th & Grand.
"The New Dress Code: Seven Women Explore Feminine Values In Art" with Kristi Hargrove, Jodi Hays, Michelle Sciumbato, Barbara Yontz, Mandy Sauer, Erika Wollam Nichols
Join this unique group of artists as they discuss their work which includes conceptual art, photographic, print making, painting, drawing, video, installation, and object art. Following the theme of feminine values, their work connects the technical aspect of art with philosophy, literature, psychology, politics, and spirituality.
